We understand that college can be expensive!
The Office of Financial Aid is here to help you obtain funds to cover your tuition and other expenses. All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. Multiple forms of aid are available. Not sure where to start?
Financial aid includes any support that helps you cover the expenses of a college education.
At Mott Community College, financial aid includes federal grants, federal work-study, state programs, scholarships, loans, and other forms of aid. Many students qualify for more than one source of funds. Read on to learn about each type of aid.
Federal Grants are money provided by the federal government, such as the Federal Pell Grant, to help cover the cost of your education. Federal Grants are based on your financial need, directly applied to your tuition, and do not need to be repaid. Most MCC students are eligible for Federal Grants.
Federal Work Study is federally funded, part-time, on- or off-campus employment opportunities for students with financial need. This allows them to earn money to help pay their living and educational expenses. A Work Study award does not mean that employment is guaranteed.
The State of Michigan also provides financial aid for college through college funding programs such as:
Scholarships are funds awarded to qualified recipients and do not need to be repaid. Different scholarships have different requirements (such as belonging to a specific community, academic excellence, or financial need). Many scholarships require application outside of the regular financial aid process.
The Foundation for Mott Community College offers dedicated scholarships for students at MCC.
Loans are financial aid that must be repaid with interest. For this reason, we encourage students to borrow responsibly, and to only borrow what is needed to meet your financial needs. Loans may be offered by the federal government or other lenders. Repayment begins six months after graduation, withdrawal, or less than half-time enrollment. Some loans may have other repayment requirements.
The Office of Financial Aid responsibly manages all federal, state and institutional aid funds. We remove financial barriers for students and share our expertise in a welcoming environment with students, parents and members of the community.
The Financial Aid Office pledges to:
